Brief History of Department
:
Department of Arabic is one of the
oldest departments in the University of Lucknow. In its early days
it offered courses of only classical Arabic language and literature
starting from under Graduate Level up to Ph.D and D.Litt. degrees.
It has produced several internationally and nationally known
scholars.Several foreign celebrities were attached as students of
the Department, which enhanced its status in the Muslim world. Few
of them are Dr. Abdul Malik Bin Ahdullah Bin Danish, Minister of
Higher education for girls, Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prof.
Amir Hussain Sarkar Islamic University, Dhaka, BangIa Desh and Prof.
Shafyee Siregar, Indonesian. Prof. Waheed Mirza, Prof. S.B. Samadi,
Prof. M. Rizwan Alavi with their able scholarship and headship
contributed significantly in the growth of this departmen. During
the Headship of Prof. M.Rizwan Alavi, a new discipline “ Arab
Culture and Civilization” (from B.A. Up to D.Litt level) was
introduced and recognized by the State Government . He also
succeeded to start courses of Modern Arabic language and Literature
at various levels.

Publications :

Prof. U Farahi has
several books to his credit on Quraniyat and Mysticism. The
scholars have very well received his book “ Tasawwuf”.

Prof. Shabbir
Ahmed’S “Arabi Zuban-O-Adab Ahed Mughiliya Main” is well
recognized as one of the best book on indo-Arabi literature of
Mughal India. Around 15 articles on very important aspects of
Arabic Literature in India have been published so far, in the
leading Arabic and Urdu Journals in India. Recently he has written
preface on several books published in Arabic and Urdu.

Prof. Dr. Shah
Abdus Salam has 20 books to his credit. He has several years'
experience of teaching in the University (U.S.A). His books are in
English, Hindi and Urdu. His book "Islam Ka Ithas' in three
Volume’s is prescribed in various courses of Jamia Millia
University and Aligarh Muslim University as well as University of
Lucknow. He is also a nominated member of the Raza library board
(Government of India).

Prof. Dr. Ashfaq
Ahamad’s specialization is Mahjari literature of Arabic language.
His books Jibran Khalil Jibrin “Mahjari Adab” and “Spain main Arab
culture” has been published and are prescribed in various course
of the University of Lucknow.
