Brief History
of Department : 1. The Department
of Geography was started in University of Lucknow in the year
2002-2003. 2. Initially only Post - Graduate classes were
started & 47 students were admitted in the first batch of M. A.-
I in 2002-2003. 3. Geography subject was also introduced at the
Under-graduate level in the session 2003-2004 and 50 students were
enrolled in B. A.-I. 4. The JRF, NET & SLET qualified
students were enrolled for Ph.D. to carry out their research work in
the Department. 1st Ph. D. was awarded to Mrs. Ritu Jain in 24 Nov’
2005.

5. At present
the following courses are being run by the Department. (i) Under
–Graduate Course : 3 Years (ii) Post –Graduate Course. : 2 Years
(iii) P. G. Diploma in Town & Country Planning : 1 Year (2
Semester) (iv) Ph. D. Programme. : 2-5 Years
The
following courses are being planned in future: (i) Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster
Management (ii) Post-Graduate Diploma in Remote Sensing and
GIS. (iii) Post-Graduate Diploma in Ecology & Environment
Management.
(6) The Department has changed & implemented
the new syllabus as recommended by the UGC. (7) Remote Sensing
& GIS the most advance branch of Geography has been included in
the syllabus of M.A.-II. (8) The faculty consists of guest
teachers from various institutes and degree colleges of Lucknow. All
the faculty members fulfill the basic eligibility of Lectureship as
per UGC rules. (9) Total 19 teachers are engaged in teaching in
Graduate and Post – Graduate classes & average 24 Periods have
to be managed everyday in various classes & specialization.
(10) The Department is in contact with various institutions and
organisations of allied discipline.
