Brief History of Department :

The Department of Jyotirvijnana had been newly established in Lucknow University from the session of 2001-2002 on the basis of recommendations of University Grants Commission At this time the Dean faculty of Arts Prof. Surendra Singh was an acting Head of Jyotirvijnana Department and Dr. Brijesh Kumar Shukla, reader in Sanskrit Department was appointed a Convenor of this newly created department. The Head Department of Sanskrit Prof. Ashok Kumar Kalia's Contribution to this department would be always remembered and Prof. Surendra Singh was an Iron piller, on which the department had been established. Since its inception it is running successfully with the help of visiting faculty. The Computer Lab and Library have been also placed here and an Indian observatory is being prepared in the department for the students and research works. The research work for Ph. D. and D.Litt Degree in Jyotirvijnana is also approved by University and some research scholars are working here for Ph.D. Degree.
