The Institute was established in the ONGC Centre for Advanced Studies during 2017, in collaboration with the ONGC Foundation, New Delhi, as desired by the  ONGC. For active collaboration between the University of Lucknow and the ONGC an agreement was signed and ONGC provided financial support for the construction of the building of ONGC Centre for Advanced Studies in the campus of University of Lucknow.
